What was the Hundred Years' War?

The Hundred Years' War was a conflict between two countries, France and England. Edward III, the closest relative of the dead king of Franc, thought the he should be the king of France. The French people didn't wan't someone from a different country ruling them so they had a war. The countries fought battles on land and they also fought battles over the sea. There were several famous sea battles that took place during the war. They also fought over control of land, one place that is called Bordeaux which comes in later. There was around 1,500,000 - 2,000,000 casualties overall. In the end, France ended up winning the Hundred Years' War.

How did the Hundred Years War start?

The Hundred Years' War started when the French king, King Charles, died. being his closest male relative, Edward III of England thought that he should be the rightful heir to the throne. But Edward III was a man from England and the French people didn't want a foreigner to rule over their land. Edward III sailed with about 200 ships to France. That is how the Hundred Years' War started.

The Hundred Years' War was about the French not wanting Edward III to rule their land. The war was a s
stuggle between the English people and the French people. It was also about some issues of ruling land. There was this one place called Bordeaux. It was a great place for growing wine and for farming so both of the countries wanted control of the land. The war mostly about the throne of Frace though. Also there was alot of other battles like the Battle of Sluys. Which was one of the many battles that were in the time perod of the Hundred Years' War.

What did soldiers fight with? (Weapons and Artillery)

Back when the Hundred Years' War was going on, they didn't have any advanced weaponry live missiles or rocket launchers. Artillery was first introduced into the world in the early 14th century. They had large guns that were capable of firing large stones or boulders. Another weapon that was introduced was the longbow. This was a big part of the war since it was a new weapon and could be used for medium distances with accuracy. Another weapon that was like a longbow was a crossbow. It was also a medium range weapon. Cast iron was introduced and started to become popular. Cast iron was more stronger and  and was capable of firing up to 100 pound boulders.
